Sixty in sixty at sixty!

Hi, I'm Charlie Hubbard, the owner and director of Bikram Yoga Northampton in Massachusetts: Noho Yoga. http://bikramyoganorthampton.com

Starting on September 10, 2009, I will begin a sixty day challenge.

What's that?

I will do a ninety-minute Bikram Yoga class every day for sixty days ending on my sixtieth birthday: November 8, 2009.

Bikram Yoga is a form of Hatha Yoga promoted by Bikram Choudhury bikramyoga.com.
The series of 26 postures and two breathing exercises take place in a room heated to over 105 degrees. The series is designed to stretch, stimulate and strengthen every muscle, joint and organ leaving the participant feeling serene and fit.

Done frequently and vigorously , the 26 posture series enhances strength, flexibility and balance. Hatha Yoga, of which this series is a part, is a healing experience facilitating fitness of the mind and body. The series promotes healing of many conditions.

Starting Thursday, September 10, 2009 you can follow my progress here.

  1. I'm writing your first ever comment! Woohoo!! I'm a dork. Too bad you weren't born a day earlier, cause then you could have started at 9am today on 9/9/09 - very auspicious.

This is also a pretty clever way to make sure everyone remembers your birthday. I know you're just in this gig for the presents.

  2. The 9/9/09 thing is nice and all. But I am quite anxiously anticipating, in a little over two years, 11/11/11. Which, like 9/9/09, has very litte to do with my birthday.

I am hoping for a totaly over the top prediction of doom on 11/11/11. You know, something like the Y2K thing in 2000 where the world was supposed to come to a crashing halt but didn't.

I love that kind of stuff.

  3. HAH - I was having a similar thought. But I was thinking, you know how you're always supposed to make a wish at 11:11? What if 11:11 on 11/11/11 is like this epic wish fulfillment moment when everyone who makes a wish has it granted? It'd be like a reverse apocalypse. This sounds like a great movie. Somebody's got 2 years to get cracking on this concept.

P.S. Replying to comments! Good work!! ;-)

And yes, J was right about the 9-9-9 theory. :)

  5. Go for it!

I'll be starting a 60 day challenge as soon as we get our boat out of the water for the winter in a couple of weeks, and I wish I would be a better writer in English as I would blog about it as well.

  6. Thank you clairmeiz! J is usually right about pretty much everything:)

And Christina, you gave me a Yoga story for class this morning. I will be posting pictures on the blog of my students who do thirty day challenges. So between sets of the floor series, I told them I would "make them famous, put them on the internet". The I told them of Christina in Sweden and how this really it world wide.

    Thanks!

  7. Wow- sixty days in a row? Very inspiring. I am trying to go every other day. I have two under my belt from a long hiatus. Any advice on a healthy snack before class that will not make me nauseous during the back bending series?

  8. What one can eat before class varies from person to person. I can have a piece of fruit, usually an apple, if I eat it a least an hour before class. But I have an iron stomach. I have taken class right after eating lunch. I am not happy in forward bends when I do that. So I am not reccomending it. Try to eat as little as possible at least two hours before practicing. If you need the energy, think light and easy to digest.

  9. Juliana - Dig this - my baby sister will be 21 on 11/11/11. How cool is that, right? I'm totally going to be all over her to make wishes at 11:11 :)

And let me just say how very proud I am of Charlie!! He is doing a such great job, and is an inspiration to everyone in the studio!
